Geonosis
Geonosis is the closest inhabited neighbour to Tatooine being located less than one parsec away. It is the second of five rocky worlds orbiting a yellow sun in the Outer Rim. The planet has four large outer moons and also eleven smaller and closer inner moons. It has dense asteroid rings in equatorial orbit to which the smaller moons act as tidal shepherds, and the planet regularly suffers from asteroid showers eminating from the rings. It is thought the rings were created by the destruction of a small inner moon in a collision with a two-kilometre wide comet. The rings are rich with mineral resources which are mined by the natives for use in local factories.
Geonosis may not sound like an interesting place, but there are some points that make it worth the trip. While the Geonosians do not like offworlders very much, they are willing to show you their hives, for a price. You can visit one of the main hives, including Stalgasin Hive, Gehenbar Hive and Golbah Hive.
If you are lucky, and interested, you can enjoy a show in one of the local arenas, in particular the Petranaki Arena. Geonosians like to have their prisoners fight fierce creatures such as the Acklay, the Nexu or the Reek. A great day out for the kids! But be sure not to upset any Geonosian, or you will end up IN the arena!
You can also take a tour through the former Confederacy Droid Factories, where the Geonosian Industries fabricated the mechanical infantry used during the Clone Wars.
